In the last post we saw the general concepts of lighting and how we choose it (you can see it here ), and as I promised, we would see specifically what we should use for each room: the kitchen tap today!
We need a uniform light and consume little and no heat, as usually happens a long time on kitchens that overlook courtyards who enters the less natural light, or even sinks, so even to this day.

Kitchen lighting design : General lighting

Recommend to 200-300 lux / m2 (we saw that the lux measured the intensity of light, and that is a value that also appears in the boxes of bulbs). So, in a kitchen of 10 m2 you need three 18 W fluorescent (each roughly equivalent to 1,000 lumens).

Most often opt for the classic fluorescent (tube) or down-lights, which use light bulbs or LED, and with the correct spacing, well lit throughout the stay. The LED option is very good, use less and last longer, but are considerably more expensive. It is not advisable to use recessed lights for general lighting because the light is directed towards the ground and create plenty of shade. In the pictures you can see some cooking down-lights: as you see they are larger than regular light bulbs but are equally beautiful.

Task kitchen lighting : Tips

For task kitchen lighting ,  where you prepare and cook food need a more powerful and shadow-less lighting: Recommend 600 to 800 lux / m2.
We can put a spot light on the top furniture like bulbs, LED strips, a temperature of approximately 5,500 K. If we have no option to add task lighting (because there are no electrical installation under furniture), we have to take into account that general lighting needs to be more powerful, so we can also work with it. A good option is, if for example we have three down-lights, which can be started each independently, thus regulating the intensity of light according to our needs.

If you are lucky to have an area in the kitchen designed to dining area, it is important to be illuminated with light.

A suspended ceiling lamp (if the table has a fixed place), located at 70-80 cm. Table not to dazzle, or island, if any, will be sufficient. Endeavor to use a durable and easy to clean screen as steel or glass, and put a warmer than in the rest (about 4,000 K) illuminated. Suffice it to light for 10 to 20 W low energy bulb or a LED 8W. If you opt for halogen (less recommended by the heat emitted), not exceeding 60 W.
